Favorite Reads of 2019 It was a turbulent, yet sublime year, reading-wise. Like the past few years, I had made some reading resolutions, the most important of which was: "Watch less, Read more." Followed the dictum like a new convert follows his freshly adopted religion. My favourite reads of the year include a couple of rereads and a few works I had left half-read due to a variety of reasons. All of the books mentioned here fired me to a state of febrile intensity. In no particular order, I list the works that filled me with joy, hope, anxiety, and a thousand other feelings; works that left me marveling at the creative heights some humans reach, books that left me numbed at the depraved depths some humans sink... 1. The stories of Perumal Murugan reminds me of the days I spent in villages and towns across India during my childhood and adolescence. There is an air of sneaking dread in his stories. Innocuous seeming stories take a menacing turn.
